My favourite Boogaard memory was meeting him with my brother. Tyler was on his two-week leave from Iraq the same time that Boogey came to our municipality. We waited in line for four hours to be the first to get together with him, and he was SUCH a sweetheart. Boogaard was someone that carry my brother and I closer to each other, and because of that he supposed more to me than I think most people can appreciate.

Two neurosurgeons not involved in helping Moore agreed that it was probably not at great risk of meningioma.

“Meningitis is one of the most common brain tumors in adults. They are benign and in many cases completely resectable [removable by surgery],” said Dr. Arno H. Fried, a Department of Neurosurgery at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey “They grow slowly and occasionally looked at some time in order to determine if it should be removed. If the meningioma is large enough, causing symptoms and grows, it should be removed. This is a common operation for the neurosurgeon who sees cases of brain tumor as a significant part of their practice. ”

Another neurosurgeon said that doctors usually decide to act on the basis of the nature of the tumor and any symptoms.

“Sometimes [tumors] is removed before the patient becomes symptomatic, if we are concerned about the rate of growth,” said Dr Anders Cohen, chief of neurosurgery at Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York. “The problem is based on the place where it grows. Depending on what part of the brain tumor pressing against will determine the symptoms, which can be as easy as headaches or seizures, or may affect the movement, vision or speech.”

He added that the results of Moore after the operation is likely to be good.

“The forecast for the removal of meningioma is usually very successful, and much depends on the patient before surgery, and the size and location of the tumor,” Cohen said. “The vast majority of patients do well and return to their former way of life.”

Moore is best known for her starring roles in two popular comedies, Television, Dick Van Dyke Show in the 1960′s and 1970′s hit The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Judges’ Praise

The judges generally praised James more than any of the other finalists, but a certain aural fatigue was starting to set in over the past few weeks. Viewers may simply have tired of the way he was thrust at them as the frontrunner.

Jimmy Iovine wondered if he hadn’t allowed himself to show too much naked emotion when he struggled to perform “Without You” the other week. Judy Garland and Edith Piaf may have sobbed during their signature songs, but there was never any doubt they had the showbiz instinct to get through – sometimes it takes the resolve of an ice trucker.

Why did Scotty finally wind up in the bottom two? I suspect his second number on Wednesday, a jokey-hokey attempt at a crowd-pleaser with the oldie “Young Blood,” played a lot worse on TV than for the judges. Maybe he should go back to holding his mic at that odd angle, like Bugs Bunny with his carrot.

Osama Bin Laden Dead:

The historic revelation comes about four months before the 10th anniversary of the devastating Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, which were executed by the Al Qaeda network helmed by Bin Laden and prompted the start of a war on terror that has dominated U.S. foreign policy.

Bin Laden, 54, was a member of a wealthy Saudi family and has been on the FBI’s Most Wanted Fugitives List since 1999.

Bin Laden broke with Saudi leaders over their beliefs regarding Israel. He was eventually denounced by his family and gave up citizenship.

Al Qaeda has taken responsibility for the bombings of U.S. embassies in 1998 in Tanzania and Kenya. More than 200 people were killed in the attacks.

Al Qaeda has also claimed responsibility for other attacks on other symbols of U.S. power around the globe. It has spawned local organizations in hot spots from Iraq to Afghanistan.

The announcement by Obama from the East Room of the White House came eight years to the day after President Bush announced the end of major combat operations in Iraq, the so-called “Mission Accomplished” speech from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

Members of Congress were briefed on the news by Vice President Joe Biden throughout the weekend, according to a Senate aide.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, related the news to mourners at a memorial service for political consultant Kam Kuwata. Feinstein said Obama was announcing it on TV as she spoke. However, she announced the news well before Obama began to speak.

The traveler, Youtube handle nbolt, shot a photo approximately every two miles on the 11-hour trip, which equates to a snap of the photo every two seconds. The photos were made with a 5d2, a time-lapse controller, and a 16mm–35mm camera, along with an iPhone.

Nbolt posted the results as a time lapse video that can be found with a quick Google search. He duly notes that photos were not taken during take-off and landing in order to satisfy FAA rules. Those are a computer model, nbolt said in a blog post.

In all, 2,459 photos were condensed into two minutes. They also include amazing shots of the Canadian tundra. Nbolt said he had a whole row to himself on the Air France flight and the crew allowed him to set up a tripod and other gear to take the photos.

According to Wikipedia, an aurora is a natural light display in the sky that occurs mostly in the polar regions. They are caused by the collision of charged particles directed by the Earth’s magnetic field.

Josh Hamilton:

Anderson said after the game that he hadn’t had a chance to talk the play over with Hamilton because the slugger was getting tests done. But Anderson said it was a play he would have tried with any of the club’s speed guys.

“There was nobody covering home plate, so we tried to steal a run there,” Anderson said. “He made a pretty good play. That’s a tough play for a catcher, running away and shovel pass and try to tag a guy. There was an opportunity with two outs and we tried to take advantage of it.”

Anderson said he would have preferred that Hamilton hadn’t dived in headfirst.

“I always want him to slide feet first no matter what he does,” Anderson said. “You play this game long enough, and I’ve gone through it too, sliding headfirst, and have had some injuries. Sometimes you can’t help it, your instinct just tells you to dive and try to get there. But most of the time you try to go feet first if you can to try to stay away from injuries.”

After Hamilton was tagged out at the plate, he walked to the dugout with his arm behind his back. He then tried to take some swings, but when he stopped his swing he felt a lot of pain.

“He just came up and told me he couldn’t go and that was it,” manager Ron Washington said.

General manager Jon Daniels said Hamilton won’t be able to swing a bat for a month. The injury is being termed a non-displaced fracture of the humerus bone.

The fracture was small enough that it wasn’t detected on an X-ray, but Daniels held a conference call about two hours after the game with results from an MRI exam.

“Obviously, he’s a big part of our club,” Daniels said. “We built the club to deal with something like this.”

Daniels, who admitted he hasn’t seen the play yet because he’s been visiting the club’s Class A team in Hickory, said he was fine with Anderson’s decision to send Hamilton.

“I have absolutely no issue with Dave sending him,” Daniels said. “We play an aggressive style of baseball. We run. We take the extra base. The chances of getting hurt on that play are minimal. I’ve encouraged Dave to keep being aggressive.”

Hamilton said he heard two pops from his shoulder after he slid into home.

“I’m a little worried,” Hamilton said before he learned his fate.

Jamie Oliver Food Revolution:

Shoved out of the L.A. school system early on in the hour (if he thought the bureaucracy in Huntington, W. Va., was tough, he had not reckoned with an L.A. school board), Oliver took to the streets.

He went to an L.A. burger joint to try and win a convert, a site on which to practice his good-nutrition ideas. As someone who admires and partakes of Los Angeles’ many fine independent fast-food establishments when I visit, I was ambivalent as he tried the patience of the owner of Patra’s, a good-looking L.A. burger joint (I haven’t eaten there). Oliver tried to convince the guy to re-do his menu with healthier items that would cost this small-businessman more money, which cost would be passed on to his customers. Can you blame the man for not wanting to be used as Jamie Oliver’s guinea pig, and to lose business while Oliver passes off yogurt smoothies as milk shakes?

Oliver is great at the grand gestures. The climax to the first hour was to have an empty school bus (“this icon of trust,” as Oliver put it) filled with the amount of white sugar consumed by students in the L.A. school system in a week. The sugar — 57 tons of it — overflowed the bus. It made a great impression… on the 20 people who showed up.

But his showboating gestures don’t make for coherent arguments, either with school officials or, ultimately, with TV viewers, I would guess.
