Hung Parliament

London, England – Today was a big day for already tense parliament. In an election that did not heed a clear winner, the decision now falls into the hands of the Queen as to who will become the next prime minister?

As the 2010 UK election results poured in, The Conservative leader David Cameron won more seats than current Prime Minister Gorden Brown but didn’t have the majority to develop an effective government. Something like this is almost unheard  of in the UK.

So what happen next in the UK election results?

Both political parties say that they will work together for “national interest”. With a financial market in disarray and a major deficit in the budget, both Brown and Cameron pledge to work to repair the UK’s ailing systems.

As mentioned, it is quite unusual for no party to have the majority in the UK. Several high-profile commons members were voted out overnight. Most of whom were tied up in an expense scandal last year.

The UK’s electoral system has been described as “Victorian, antiquated, left over from an era when less people had to vote” and not designed to cope with mass participation” by Electoral Commission Chairwomen Jenny Watson. This “antiquated” system caused anger among people trying to cast their vote in the election. many people complained about being turned away at voting station.
