Tom DeLay Gets 3 Years
Tom DeLay Gets 3 Years:
From “Dancing with the Stars” in prison – is the fate of former U.S. House majority leader Tom DeLay of Representatives.
A judge sentenced a former Texas congressman to three years in prison Monday for conspiring to launder corporate money to direct the Texas candidates in 2002. In November last year, the jury also found Tom DeLay guilty to money laundering, and it took 10 years imprisonment for that instead of another five years of prison time. At the same time, his lawyers appeal convictions.
DeLay was convicted of conspiracy in 2002 for his political action committee sent $ 190,000 in corporate contributions to the Republican National Committee, which then sent money to candidates for the Texas House. In the same year Republicans took control of the state legislature for the first time since Reconstruction. This new majority, then redrew the Texas electoral districts in a way that favored Republicans. The following 2004 elections the Republicans won five of the Democratic staff in the ward.
Thus, even as the delay involves the prison, he remains proud of his political achievements, he insists he did nothing wrong. During his political life, the delay was always a brave partisan – his nickname was “Hammer” for his ability to ensure party discipline – and not one to shy away from the limelight.
In autumn 2009, a delay competed in the ninth season of “Dancing with the Stars”, but had to withdraw because of injury. If the delay winds behind bars, maybe he will dust off his dancing shoes and give a few lessons.
