Celtics Selected Avery Bradley

Celtics Selected Avery Bradley:The Celtics have officially turned the page and moved on to the 2010-11 season. A week after losing Game 7 of the Finals, the Celtics selected Avery Bradley with the 19th pick in tonight’s NBA draft.

Bradley, a freshman guard from Texas, was somewhat of a surprise considering the Celtics needs on the wing and in the frontcourt. A number of players were available to fill those positions, but general manager Danny Ainge elected to go with Bradley, who figures to back up Rajon Rondo at the point.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder is not a pure point guard and will need time to adjust to the position. He should be able to step in and make an impact immediately defensively.

Bradley averaged 11.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists in his lone season with the Longhorns. His addition is a sign that Nate Robinson, an unrestricted free agent, may not return.

With the 52nd pick, the Celtics selected Notre Dame big man Luke Harangody. Harangody was one of the most productive players in college, averaging 21.8 points and 9.1 rebounds last season. The biggest questions for Harangody’s game translating to the NBA will be his lack of height and athleticism.

NBA Draft 2010 Jon Scheyer

NBA Draft 2010 Jon Scheyer:Jon Scheyer is an American basketball player. He worked as a guard in his high school team. He has a great record for the sports of basketball. He joined the Duke Blue Devils and also played the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship in 2010.

He also has another marvelous record of scoring 21 points only in less than two minutes of a game. He has played more than 140 matches as a member of the Dukes which is his highest record. He also has a record of shooting the third highest free throws and three pointers. After giving a victory to the Dukes in the NCAA this year Jon Scheyer is looking forward for a job in any NBA team.

He is expecting to have a job very soon as his records are perfect and appealing. There are no huge hurdles between his careers after winning the NCAA title. Some of the problems are due to his weight which is less than the required one to become an NBA draft. He is underweight even then but he is confidant on himself and says that he will prove that he can play any position on the selections on Thursday.

Jon Scheyer has shown his skills to ten teams and now he is going to the kings. He is ready for his meeting with the kings and he is sure to make this his last workout with any team. He is sure to make a place in one of the NBA teams to play the next season. The Thursday night will be the end of selection for the new NBA drafts.

Sherron Collins And Chris Paul

Sherron Collins And Chris Paul:Sherron Collins looked like the best player in college basketball back in January when he relentlessly refused to let his team lose against a loaded Baylor team that was on fire in Allen Fieldhouse. Collins played 38 minutes, didn’t turn it over once, dished four assists, scored 28 points and answered every challenge in in-your-face fashion. Remarkable performance.

Venerable Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan knows a winner when he sees one. Ryan, who’s been covering the Celtics since the days of black high-top Converse sneakers and buzz cuts, took in the game with his wife.

“He’s Ty Lawson,” Ryan said when I asked him what he thought of Collins.

Lawson, the former North Carolina point guard, averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 assists in 20.3 minutes a game for the Denver Nuggets as a rookie this past season. High praise and it seemed to fit so perfectly.

During ESPN’s Thursday night coverage of the NBA Draft, Collins was reduced to a punch line.

When interviewed after getting selected by the New Orleans Hornets, Cole Aldrich was asked about playing with Chris Paul, a deluxe facilitator. Aldrich said he was used to that, having played with Collins at Kansas. It was nice of him to mix in a plug for his former teammate. It backfired. Former NBA coach Jeff Van Gundy, blessed with a terrific dry sense of humor, referred back to it when news broke that Aldrich was being traded to Oklahoma City. He said OKC needed size, “Plus he needs to be traded if he’s comparing Sherron Collins and Chris Paul.” Ouch!

Van Gundy’s
brother, Stan, coach of the Orlando Magic, later in the draft praised his brother for what he called the line of the night.

Collins never had Chris Paul talent, but if he did everything right from the moment that Baylor game ended, comparisons to Ty Lawson could have gained momentum.

Yet, after Baylor, save for some big games here and there, Collins didn’t keep the buzz about him alive. His final game, a five-turnover, 4-for-15 shooting effort against Northern Iowa was among his worst. Teammates’ body language that night hinted they thought he hogged the ball.

After the season, Collins blew off the team banquet. That sort of thing gets around and when you’re 5-foot-11 and face a constant battle to stay in shape, you have to do things to make teams talk themselves into taking a chance. You can’t do things that make teams wonder.

Collins’
weight needed to go down after the season. It went in the other direction. As draft night wore on, Collins started feeling like a longshot to get chosen. Finally, on the 60th and final pick of the night, Collins was drafted. That would be Dwayne Collins, a forward from the University of Miami

Devin Ebanks Two Time Champion

Devin Ebanks Two Time Champion:Although Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak thought he would have to get lucky Thursday to draft a player who could make his roster this fall, he was feeling fortunate after grabbing two forwards widely expected to go a bit higher.

The two-time champions chose West Virginia’s Devin Ebanks and UTEP’s Derrick Caracter in the second round of the NBA draft Thursday. Both will play for the Lakers’ entry in the upcoming summer league.

“Then they’ll have to make the team in training camp,” Kupchak said.

With the 43rd overall pick, the Lakers grabbed the six-foot-nine Ebanks, who averaged 12 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds while playing strong defence for the Mountaineers last season, his sophomore campaign.

“He’s got a lively bounce to his step,” Kupchak said. “Very active, versatile perimeter player. He’ll be exciting from time to time, but he’s a young player. At that age, you’re drafting a young player that you hope gets better.”

Several draft observers likened Ebanks to former Lakers forward Trevor Ariza, and Kupchak didn’t shy from the comparison, saying Ebanks is a potential shutdown wing defender with a better outside shot than Ariza at the same point in their development.

“I’m so happy right now, you don’t understand,” Ebanks shouted in a phone interview during a jubilant party back home. “I’m willing to learn. They just won the NBA championship, so I have a whole bunch of stuff to learn, and what better place to learn than with the NBA champions?”

He’s also yet another Queens native on a roster already featuring Ron Artest, who knows Ebanks from the neighbourhood, and Lamar Odom, who grew up with Ebanks’ uncle.

“It’s probably not a bad thing,” Kupchak said. “It was something that came up during the interview. More so than Lamar and Ron, a young player being on a veteran team, with the character we have on this team, for beginners, I think that’s a strong group for a young player that’s developing to be around.”

With time and proper coaching, Kupchak suggested Ebanks could develop into a backup for Artest and an eventual replacement for Luke Walton. Kupchak acknowledged he’s worried about Walton’s health after a back injury limited him for much of last season.

“(Walton) is going to devote the summer to rehabilitation, but if he can’t make a contribution next year, we felt like we had to get someone to back him up,” Kupchak said. “That’s not a guarantee, but that is a player in an area that we had a need at.”

The Lakers acquired the 43rd pick when they traded their first-round pick to Memphis two years ago in the deal that brought Pau Gasol to town.

Los Angeles then used its own 58th pick on Caracter, a high-school star widely considered the nation’s top player as a senior before flaming out in two seasons at Louisville while clashing with coach Rick Pitino.

Caracter rescued his basketball career in a strong single season with the Miners, averaging 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds before leaving school one year early to become the first UTEP player drafted since 1995. Although his combination of agility and bulk was his most impressive asset with the Miners, Kupchak thinks Caracter still has work to do on his conditioning.

“He’s a player that we didn’t think would be available,” Kupchak said. “We had him going a little earlier in the draft.”
